About Jeremy Mhire

Paramount to my life is my faith in God and the journey towards Him, followed by my desire to love and honor the best friends a guys could ever ask for: My beautiful wife, Jenny, my son, Vincent, and my daughter, Emille. I am fully devoted to empowering others so they might recognize and experience their utmost: Physically, Mentally, and Spiritually. After spending a brief but invaluable moment in time as a recording artist and member of the Atlantic Records boyband “Plus One” from 1999-2002, I went back to college and received my Bachelor’s of Science degree in Sports Medicine & Athletic Training from Missouri State University. In 2008, I passed the National Athletic Training Association’s Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) Board Exam. In 2005, I discovered and fell in love with the then-burgeoning CrossFit methodology, community, and sport. Rather than pursuing the traditional ATC path of clinical work or working directly with a sports team upon completing my Athletic Training degree, I took the leap of faith that is small business ownership, started CrossFit Springfield, and began the slow and steady process of building a strong gym, an authentic community, and an honest brand. I praise God daily for guiding my heart and ordering my steps to this decision. Since 2008, with now over 400 active members and a 12,500 sq ft facility, CrossFit Springfield has grown to be one of the largest and longest-tenured CrossFit affiliates in the world. I saw very clearly then – as I still do today – that the fitness industry needs medically trained fitness professionals who: #1 Walk the Talk #2 Work tirelessly to bridge the gap between the prevention of chronic disease/illness/orthopedic injuries and the pursuit of higher orders of human fitness, wellness, and performance. I’m no stranger to the competition floor. From 2009-2014, I competed and qualified as an individual for the CrossFit Games Regionals, placing Top 5 overall a total 9x in my competitive CrossFit career. I have also had the honor of coaching my longtime friend and former business partner, 3x CrossFit Games athlete, Melissa Wistrom, throughout her competitive journey. In the summer of 2020, after years of business and life lessons learned, patience, prayer, and consideration, CFS rebranded to “Proximal Strength”, while maintaining the CrossFit affiliate status of CrossFit Springfield. Same mission. Same unyielding commitment to excellence; the long-term purpose of our operational name-change to Proximal Strength being to continue to diversify our programming offerings in order to expand our ability to do good and impact lives. Little did I know in 2009 that the name “Proximal Strength”, which began simply as the title of an online training-blog and journal during my competitive fitness days, would become the blueprint and be the platform for the culture and ethos of our gym and brand. In addition to programming, coaching classes, and private training at Proximal Strength, I am also the founder and Event Director of The Heart of America Team Competition. An annual celebration and pillar of the competitive fitness community from the Midwest and beyond since 2008, HOA is the longest-running CrossFit competition in the world after the CrossFit Games. In my lifetime, I’ve been very blessed to be a part of many winning teams, perhaps none greater than 1st Phorm. I’m proud to be a longtime 1st Phorm Sponsored Athlete since 2013. I’m grateful to serve with and alongside an entire organization who’s core values and mission align so congruently with mine. Here’s to the continued pursuit of excellence in all aspects of life. Love & Blessings!
