Proximal Strength is a gym, organization, and lifestyle brand dedicated to empowering lives through the platforms of fitness and community. Our culture thrives off authenticity. We strive daily to facilitate and elevate health, wellness, and fitness throughout your entire lifetime, wherever you may be on your journey.
We have an extremely diverse client and member base. In every conceivable way: Young, middle-aged, and old. Physically, ethnically, socially, financially, athletically, and in terms of career paths…You name it. The pursuit of lifelong health, wellness, and fitness is our common ground.
We offer a wide-range of programming options: Everything from CrossFit (We are the home of longtime CF affiliate CrossFit Springfield) to classes that focus more specifically on the pursuits of mobility, strength, endurance, or lightweight aerobic conditioning.
Joining our gym is easy. New members are required to take 3 on-ramp private training sessions with one of our coaches aka “Foundations.” These sessions are scheduled based upon your availability, and your 1st month’s membership is included in the fee you pay for your 3 foundations PT sessions. The purpose of your foundations PT sessions are 3-fold:
You may begin attending daily group WODs, row classes, and endurance training sessions immediately.
You’re also welcome to schedule a free orientation (walk through, check out the facility, learn about our operations, etc) or pay the daily drop in fee to check the vibe and try a group workout.
This orientation class is for those that are brand new to CrossFit and wish to see what it is all about. This class is free for all people new to CrossFit Springfield. Please call 417.343.4588 to schedule.
All members new to CrossFit must complete our 3 PT session foundations program. These classes are 1 on 1 or 1 on 2 and personally instructed by a qualified Proximal Strength coach. Cost is $200 and includes the first month’s Unlimited Membership. You will learn the 9 fundamental CrossFit movements, the Olympic Lifts, and will be instructed on miscellaneous skills and training modalities (Gymnastics movements, Jump Rope, Plyometrics, etc)
The Group WOD (Workout of the Day) is the group workout that is programmed for each day. You will meet at the Whiteboard, brief the WOD, warm-up and complete the WOD while being coached by one of our highly educated and fun coaches. Group exercise guarantees a good time and great accountability for giving each workout your level best. Check out our schedule to see when offer these classes!
Proximal Strength Row Class is a 45 minute, non-stop, lightweight, low-to-moderate intensity conditioning workout. It’s the perfect quick sweat sesh for all fitness and skill levels. Our row classes are primarily programmed around our fleet of 24 Concept 2 Row Ergs. Row Class instructors also frequently program with Proximal Strength’s vast equipment arsenal of 16 Ski Ergs, 20 Assault Bikes, and 10 Assault Runners. Add in light to moderate load weights and infinitely scaleable bodyweight movements and you’ve got yourself THE PERFECT WORKOUT.
Proximal Strength Endurance is designed to offer an organized, scheduled endurance class to ALL athletes of CrossFit Springfield, regardless of fitness level or running ability, that will focus on improving overall speed, endurance, stamina, and health through implementation of a structured, interval-based training program. Endurance is offered on Mondays and Thursdays at 5:30pm. We meet in the far back corner of the gym for a WOD briefing, then head out to the back lot for the workout.

The name “Proximal Strength” was conceived by owner/founder Jeremy Mhire in 2008. As a graduate of Missouri State University’s Sports Medicine Athletic Training program, a personal trainer/strength & conditioning coach, and accomplished CrossFit competitor, Mhire subscribes wholeheartedly to the concept of “core-to-extremity” aka “proximal-to-distal” and holds strongly to the belief that – in both fitness and life – you can only be as strong in your extremities as you are at your core.
